駅前 = えきまえ = (e ki ma e)
→ in fornt of station.
Kaneki is walking on campus, and he can hear these words from the lady’s talk.
えき(e ki) = station
まえ(ma e) = in front of
So, school前(ma e) means in front of the school.
- スイーツ = すいーつ = (su i – tsu)
→ sweets
The word used by the same lady above it.
It is important that the Japanese use katakana when the words sound the same as English and Japanese. But, not everything, so you need to learn and put knowledge.

- なんでこんなことするんだよ。 = (na nn de ko nn na ko to su ru nn da yo.)
→ Why would you do something like that!?
I know it is long.. But when you can memorize this sentence, you can use it. Don’t need to change, just memorize!
This sentence used by kaneki. When he talked with Touka-chan, he used it. You can listen until you can understand what he said.
- 何言ってんの? = なにをゆってんの? = (na ni yu tte nn no?)
→ what are you talking about?
Rize talked Kaneki’s inside of the head. Then she used it. Could you find it?

- 駅前にあるスイーツのお店、行ったことある?
= えきまえにあるすいーつのおみせ、いったことある?
(e ki ma e ni a ru su i – tsu no o mi se, i tta ko to a ru?)
→ Have you ever been to the sweets shop in front of the station?
This sentence picked up from the lady’s conversation on the campus.
Yellow highlight is connection words. It is a super difficult part of Japanese study because you just learn many times, and you should understand until you feel that the connection word is good or not.
I know it is confusing, but you should try to read it many times.
